The Developmental Services Program, in conjunction with the University of Miami Pediatric Special Immunology Program, provides comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments for infants, children, and youth infected with HIV. Children who are evaluated receive a written report outlining their cognitive strengths and challenges, specific recommendations to address areas of need, as well as targeted advocacy services to assist children and their families who wish to obtain specialized educational services through the school system. Service providers work closely with families both during and after assessment to ensure that their children’s developmental needs are fully met, while maintaining confidentiality and protecting privacy rights. Additional program services include:
- General education about developmental milestones
- Learning issues and developmental disabilities
- Parent-training for children with special needs
- Adherence interventions for clients with complex medication regimens
