The Department of Radiation Oncology operates a four-year Residency Program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Radiation Oncology’s facilities at Sylvester and its affiliation with Miami-Dade County’s hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, provide residents with superb exposure to large numbers of patients with all types of cancer. Sophisticated radiation oncology technology enables residents to learn which radiation treatments are most appropriate for which forms of cancer, and how to use the equipment for optimal patient benefit.
To ensure care for patients with complex disease, the department participates in extensive clinical research through in-house, University of Miami Medical Group (UMMG) physician-directed studies, and federal and private funding sources. Cooperative research programs are conducted through the Collaborative Ocular Melanoma Study (COMS), the East Coast Oncology Group (ECOG), the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), and the Pediatric Oncology Group (POG).
In addition to training radiation oncology residents, the department is affiliated with the training program for radiation therapists at Miami-Dade College.
