What does the Population Sciences and Cancer Disparity Navigator Team do?
The primary role of the PSCD Navigator team is to “navigate” investigators and their study teams to resources that support the successful completion of PSCD-related research, particularly concerning the nuances of cancer-relevant research processes at UM and processes specific to National Cancer Institute (NCI) requirements.
Our Mission:
The Population Sciences and Cancer Disparity Group’s mission at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is to provide support to Sylvester investigators to facilitate research for cancer control by conducting observational and interventional studies that focus on primary prevention, early detection, health outcomes, and the delivery of cancer care to our catchment area.
Our Support Includes:
- Assisting with the development, implementation, and success of Sylvester's population sciences research
- Aiding investigators with study submission and data reporting requirements
- Providing regulatory support and oversight
- Connecting investigators with available resources within Sylvester and the overall research community at UM
How Do I Submit My Cancer-Relevant Research?
Here are the steps to your cancer-related research approved:
Obtain approval from the appropriate Site Disease Group (SDG) (if applicable)
To start this process, start your OPERA REQUEST/SUBMISSION. Some exceptions to this first step may be granted, if consistent with institutional policies.
Obtain Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee (PRMC) approval
The PRMC Navigator team can help facilitate the detailed application process after SDG endorsement (if applicable).
NOTE: Consistent with University of Miami Policies, PRMC review and approval is required for all cancer-relevant research prior to IRB approval.
UM IRB Submission
The submission process uses the University of Miami's Electronic Protocol Submission and Tracking system (eProst). More information about registration with eProst and required trainings can be found on the UM IRB webpage. The PSCP Navigator team can assist Cancer Center members with IRB submission.
The Activation of the Study
Once approved by the IRB, when your study is ready to be activated, please contact the PSCD Navigator Team so we can record your study as “Open to Accrual.” We can facilitate activating the study in Velos (eResearch Clinical Trials Management Software).
