The Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BBSR) hosts Quantitative Science Lectures and Clinics that are open to all Cancer Center members, affiliates and staff. Announcements for the Quantitative Science Lectures and Clinics are shared through university and medical school communication listservs, Cancer Center distribution lists, and calendar invites.
Quantitative Science Lectures
BBSR hosts Quantitative Science Lectures (formally known as Bioinformatics Workshops) throughout the year dedicated to Cancer Center member, affiliates, and staff. These lecture series provide the opportunity to interact with and learn from the best minds in computational biology. BBSR invite internal speakers as well as external well-known experts to speak in the areas of bioinformatics, computational biology, and statistical genomics each year.
Quantitative Science Clinic
At the clinics, researchers discuss their statistical questions or issues in a group environment. The Quantitative Science Clinic staff provide expert biostatistical, bioinformatics, and computational advice to cancer researchers, on all phases of research, including analysis plans, sample size calculations, statistical study design, interpretation of quantitative findings, and high throughput genomic data analysis.

Request Process
Researchers with questions or issues and who would like BBSR expertise need to complete a Quantitative Science Clinic request form and submit via email to the BBSR clinic general email account (bbsr-clinic@miami.edu) at least three days in advance. Clinics will be confirmed by an email response from the BBSR outlining the scheduled date and time, requesting researcher, location, and topic for discussion. (Note: Mentors/supervisors are strongly encouraged to attend the clinic with students and postdoctoral fellows.) Researchers who have simple datasets to be analyzed have the option of emailing their de-identified data prior to clinic discussion, to the BBSR clinic general email account (bbsr-clinic@miami.edu). Preferred formats are R, SPSS, SAS, and .cvs files. Identifiable data MUST be removed from the files prior to submitting to our core.
