Sylvester introduced an in-house “food pharmacy” to help patients who face food insecurity, a burden that can worsen outcomes during cancer treatment. The initiative directly addresses barriers that affect treatment success by providing nutritious, shelf-stable ingredients and recipes to patients who might otherwise run out of groceries or struggle with meal costs. Led by Dr. Tracy Crane, Ph.D., RDN, co-leader of Sylvester’s Cancer Control Program and director of lifestyle medicine, prevention and digital health, and supported by Sylvester’s lifestyle medicine team, the Sylvester Food Pharmacy is built on existing dietitian services to make healthy options accessible. Located at Sylvester’s main campus, it offers weekly visits for patients and includes guidance from trained students and volunteers to support lasting dietary habits.
