South Florida’s Only NCI-Designated Cancer Center
NCI- designated cancer center logo Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of UHealth - University of Miami Health System, has been awarded NCI designation from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the federal government’s most important agency for cancer research and training.

This means that you have access to one of the top cancer centers in the nation, the only NCI-designated cancer center in South Florida, and one of only four in the entire state of Florida.
High Performing Cancer Center
High Performing Hospitals Cancer Sylvester is a High Performing cancer center, as recognized by the U.S. News and World Report. It is also rated as high performing in leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma conditions, as well as in surgery for colon, gynecological, lung and prostate cancers.
Cancer Center of Excellence
Cancer Center of Excellence Sylvester is one of six institutions in the state to have earned this honor. Since the program’s inception in 2015, Sylvester has been recognized as a Cancer Center of Excellence, meeting the rating standards created by a joint committee of members from the Florida Cancer Control and Research Advisory Council and the Biomedical Research Advisory Council, two advisory groups mandated by the Florida Legislature.
American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer
American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Sylvester is an accredited Commission on Cancer Program. The Commission on Cancer (COC) is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for patients with cancer by setting and raising standards. They promote prevention, research, education, and monitoring of comprehensive quality care.
American Society of Clinical Oncology Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI)
American Society of Clinical Oncology Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) The Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) is a quality program designed for outpatient-oncology practices to foster a culture of self-examination and improvement. Participating practices can report on evidence-based quality measures and receive individual performance scores by practice, site, and provider, as well as benchmarked scores aggregated from all participating practices. Sylvester is certified by American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) recognizing oncology practices that are committed to delivering the highest quality of care.
American College of Radiology
American College of Radiology The breast imaging center at Sylvester is one of the few hospital-based imaging centers in South Florida designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.
Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT)
Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) The FACT Standards promote improvement and progress in cellular therapy and regenerative medicine. Meeting these requirements demonstrates a commitment to controlling every aspect that impacts the quality of products and therapeutic care. With regular updates through the collaboration of the most knowledgeable minds in cellular therapy, the depth and breadth of FACT Standards are unmatched. In attaining this accreditation seal, Sylvester demonstrates to patients, medical professionals, health insurance companies, and the government that it exceeds standards in care and laboratory practices.
Joint Commission
Joint Commission The Joint Commission is committed to advancing safety and quality, as well as transforming health care, by encouraging, empowering and supporting health care organizations to embrace quality improvement. In efforts to continually maintain excellence and quality of patient care, ongoing measures of success are currently in place at Sylvester. A well-organized survey preparation plan along with strong leadership and staff involvement lead to the successful survey outcome.
National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer
Joint Commission Accreditation by the NAPRC is granted only to those programs that are committed to providing the best possible care to patients. The NAPRC provides the structure and resources to develop and operate a high-quality center and accredited programs follow a model for organizing and managing a rectal center to ensure multidisciplinary, integrated, comprehensive cancer services.
Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN)
Lymphatic Education & Research Network The Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN) mission is to fight lymphatic diseases through education, research, and advocacy. LE&RN centers seek to accelerate the prevention, treatments and cures for lymphedema, lipedema, lymphatic anomalies and the continuum of lymphatic diseases. LE&RN is a non-profit internationally recognized organization founded in 1998.

As a LE&RN Center of Excellence, Sylvester is committed to investigating preventive and therapeutic benefits that are impacted by lymphatic function such as cancer metastasis.
Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP)
College of American Pathologists College of American Pathologists (CAP) is a laboratory accreditation program that certifies laboratories with the use of checklist that were developed after vigorous scientific assessments with input from more than 500 pathologist. They are updated annually to incorporate the latest best practices and provide a clear roadmap for achieving accreditation.

As a CAP accredited lab, we are driven to provide the highest quality of laboratory services. The comprehensive use of testing techniques ensures the accurate generation of results that can add value to patient care and medical research.

CAP is approved by the CMS, or Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and thus has the authority to inspect labs that are CLIA-certified (specific to labs subject to US regulations).
The HX Pinnacle of Excellence Award®
The HX Pinnacle of Excellence Award logo This award is given to the four top-performing organizations in each category on the basis of extraordinary achievement. The award recognizes clients who have maintained consistently high levels of excellence in patient experience, employee engagement, physician engagement consumer experience or clinical quality performance.
