The BBSR hosts Quantitative Science Lectures and short courses that are open to all Cancer Center members, trainees, and staff. Announcements are distributed through University and Miller School of Medicine listservs, Cancer Center communication channels, calendar invitations, and other institutional distribution networks to maximize participation and engagement.
Quantitative Science Lectures
The BBSR hosts Quantitative Science Lectures (formerly known as Bioinformatics Workshops) throughout the year for Cancer Center members, trainees, and staff. These lectures provide valuable opportunities for attendees to learn from and interact with leading experts in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, and statistical genomics.
The lecture series features both internal faculty and nationally recognized external speakers who present on emerging methodologies, innovative research, and advances in quantitative sciences. Through these educational sessions, BBSR promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the application of cutting-edge quantitative approaches to cancer research.
Courses and Workshops
In collaboration with the Sylvester Office of Education and Training and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BBSR) offers an annual summer in-person training course focused on the application of bioinformatics tools, computational methods, and analytical algorithms for biological discovery at the genomic and transcriptomic levels.
These hands-on educational programs provide participants with practical experience in the analysis and interpretation of high-throughput biological data, while introducing current methodologies and best practices in bioinformatics and computational biology.
In addition to the annual summer course, the BBSR provides specialized talks throughout the year based on investigator needs and the availability of BBSR faculty and staff experts. These educational opportunities are designed to enhance quantitative research skills, promote the effective use of bioinformatics resources, and support innovative cancer research across the Cancer Center community.
