BBSR Funding and Fee Structure
The Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BBSR) offers support through several funding mechanisms designed to meet the needs of Cancer Center members, University of Miami investigators, and external collaborators.
Funding Models
Investigators may engage BBSR support through one or more of the following mechanisms:
Grant-Supported Effort
BBSR personnel may be supported through a designated percentage (%) effort on funded grants. Effort levels are determined based on project scope, complexity, and anticipated level of collaboration.
Collaboration Agreements
A collaboration agreement is a documented arrangement between principal investigators, departments, and/or divisions that provides support for BBSR services through either:
- A designated percentage (%) effort allocation, or
- An annual financial commitment
These agreements support ongoing collaborative activities and resource planning.
Fee-for-Service (Chargeable Services)
Projects can receive BBSR assistance through a fee-for-service model billed at the applicable hourly rate
Pre-Award Support
Pre-award services include:
- Grant proposal development - statistical sections, budget development and justification
- Protocol development / Investigator-Initiated Studies (IIS)
- Letters of Intent (LOI)
"Pre-award support is provided at no cost to Cancer Center investigators, provided that funded applications are for cancer-related projects and include appropriate support for designated BBSR biostatisticians and/or bioinformaticians through a percentage (%) effort commitment in the proposed budget.
Fee-for-Service Rates

| External Users (NON-UM Personnel)* | $250/hr. |
* Approval from BBSR leadership is required before support can be provided to non–Cancer Center members/affiliates and external users.
Collaboration Planning
Prior to initiating support, investigators should work with BBSR leadership to determine the most appropriate engagement model based on:
- Project scope and complexity
- Funding availability
- Anticipated level of statistical and/or bioinformatics involvement
- Long-term collaboration needs
- Regulatory and protocol development requirements
