Healthy Again

Luis Rios and his wife

At 59 years old, Luis Rios was diagnosed with an inoperable stage 4 pancreatic cancer. After two years of chemotherapy treatment, his cancer became resistant. At that point, Peter Hosein, M.D., co-leader of the Gastrointestinal Cancers Site Disease Group at Sylvester, decided to try immunotherapy. After 24 months, Rios showed no sign of disease and remains cancer-free. “Dr. Hosein saved my life,” he said. That’s why he and his wife, Mari Tere Brolley, made a significant gift to Sylvester to support research in immunotherapy.
