OUR PATIENTS
At Sylvester, every patient’s journey is a testament to our mission: to make a difference, one life at a time. In 2025, national recognition affirmed what our patients already know, Sylvester is a model for patient-centered care, where hope is carried forward and the future is transformed.
Our patient Mike Hugo faced brain cancer with courage and found new possibilities through clinical trials at Sylvester. He was diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer, glioblastoma, after a sudden seizure revealed a large tumor. Hugo was treated through a series of clinical trials that combined innovative surgery, targeted radiation and FDA‑approved recovery technology. More than three years later, well beyond typical expectations for this diagnosis, he is living an active, fulfilling life, illustrating how access to cutting‑edge clinical trials can extend survival and preserve quality of life for patients facing the most challenging cancers.
What began as lingering vertigo after a vacation turned out to be a life-threatening brain tumor for Paul Ringon, whose symptoms were initially easy to dismiss. Because of his family history of von Hippel-Lindau disease, a rare, complex hereditary condition that predisposes individuals to the development of cancer, doctors at Sylvester quickly identified and removed a rare brain tumor during emergency surgery and treated his metastatic cancer. Ringon’s case underscores how he entrusted his care to a team experienced in managing genetic diseases.
Jennifer Stone, whose routine blood work revealed smoldering multiple myeloma, a precancerous blood condition that often has no symptoms but carries a high risk of progressing to active cancer. Under close monitoring at Sylvester, she later enrolled in a clinical trial using immunotherapy to treat the disease before it became fully active, leading to a deep and durable remission. Her story highlights the importance of early detection, specialist care and clinical trials in managing blood cancers that can quietly worsen over time.
Every patient at Sylvester receives a personalized cancer plan, crafted by physicians, researchers and caregivers who believe in the power of innovation and compassion. Our leadership in lung cancer care, advanced diagnostics, patient education on pathology and coordinated programs means that patients and families are never alone on their journey.
From the first diagnosis and throughout cancer survivorship, Sylvester’s commitment to excellence remains resolute. We blend leading-edge science with empathy, empowering patients to heal, thrive and embrace the future with hope.
As you explore these journeys, you’ll see how Sylvester changed lives, one patient, one story at a time.
