In 2025, Sylvester’s teams forged new paths in cancer care, research and education. Their dedication and vision helped shape a future defined by innovation and impact as they drove discoveries that set new benchmarks in patient care.
Sylvester once again offered the fully online free course “Design and Management of Cancer Clinical Trials,” empowering clinicians at the University of Miami and around the globe to lead groundbreaking studies. At the same time, a new leadership development program equipped emerging talent to advance Sylvester’s mission and sustain our tradition of excellence.
Our teams showcased their expertise at national conferences, including the 2025 American Society for Radiation Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and American Society of Hematology (ASH) conferences, presenting on advances in precision medicine and innovative therapies. Sylvester researchers gave a record number of presentations at two conferences: 132 at ASCO and 159 at ASH.
Our commitment to early mentorship led to the launch of the Sylvester Program for Academic Research and Knowledge (SPARK), giving undergraduates hands-on cancer research experience and academic credit. And the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program paired students with Sylvester faculty in labs. Renewed funding for Training to Reduce Burden Across the Cancer Control Continuum (TRACC) continued our support of collaborative research and patient-centered opportunities for junior faculty.
Scientific innovators received recognition through the Zubrod Memorial Lecture and Poster Competition, fostering a spirit of inquiry among our faculty. Medical students also joined the effort, researching aggressive pediatric brain tumors and boosting research program applications at the Miller School.
Every employee contributed to a culture of excellence, mentoring future leaders, guiding clinical trials, securing funding to advance new research and supporting patients and families with compassion. Their collective impact has transformed Sylvester into a model for cancer centers nationwide.
